What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a primary health-care profession that specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and overall management of conditions that are due to problems with the joints, ligaments, tendons and nerves, especially related to the spine.
Some problems of the musculoskeletal system can be caused by accidents, stress, lack of exercise, poor posture, illness and every day wear and tear. These problems may cause pressure on the nerves in the body and these pressures can be identified and treated.
Although Chiropractors are best known for treating back pain and neck pain, which they do very well, Chiropractic has been scientifically proven to help the body in many other ways from boosting the Immune System to treating childhood middle ear infections - the list is almost endless, but always drug free and natural.
How does it work?
Chiropractic treatment mainly involves safe, often gentle, specific manipulations to free joints in the spine or other areas of the body that are not moving properly. Apart from manipulations, Chiropractors may use a variety of techniques including ice, heat, soft tissue work and advise on stretches/exercises as well as essential posture and lifestyle advice.
It's just like fine tuning the strings of a guitar. The strings are always there and still work, but are just not quite in tune unless they are adjusted regularly.
This is the same as your spine. After wear and tear and poor posture, your spine gradually gets stiff, causing pain and creating vertebra misalignment that can affect your body, leaving it out of tune.
The Chiropractor is there to finely tune the spine to ensure that it is at it's best.
How long does it take?
Your current physical/structural health (do you have bad posture, a scoliosis or arthritis, or have you had any previous accidents or injuries, broken bones or surgeries?).
Your lifestyle (do you sit down most of the day, do you frequently use a laptop, do you do any heavy lifting, what type of shoes do you wear, what is your mattress or pillow like?).
Your time and availability (regular visits are needed to get consistent improvement).
Also, there is a BIG difference between getting your body to function without any pain or symptoms, compared to getting your body functioning to its optimal and peak performance. Most people come into the clinic initially with some type of pain or problem and then later on choose to continue correct their spine and body on a maintenance basis as they realise the huge difference it can make to their lives. Chiropractic is really all about improving your overall health and well-being so you can enjoy life as much as possible.
